• Location comes first: the edge of a village, private settings, and houses in the
middle of open land
• Gardens that match the size of the house
• Well proportioned four-to-five bedroom family houses with plenty of space
• Architectural integrity: for instance a Georgian rectory without later additions
• Realistically priced wrecks- people like to snap them up to renovate
• Houses in 'good order'. The closer to London, the more important the finish
• Tasteful decoration, sometimes with furnishings included in the sale
