The following chart is intended to be just a guide to the legal fees in handling a probate matter from start to finish. Please telephone us on 020 8651 3118 for a free initial no obligation discussion as much will depend on the particular circumstances of the matter which are potentially far too varied to attempt to condense into a universal chart. For that reason we do not usually give fixed fee quotations but whether we will varies according to the particular facts of each matter; we welcome the opportunity to spend twenty minutes with you at a free no obligation meeting in the early stages to work out your requirements and to provide you with an estimate of the likely legal costs of administering an Estate.
Our fees are usually calculated according to a combination of both time and a value element following the Law Society guidance, but if you telephone then we may consider substituting the time element wholly for the value element or vice versa, depending on the nature of the Estate and the likely work involved. All work is carried out or overseen by a Solicitor partner of over ten years admission and is calculated based on several factors including the complexity, the importance to the client, and the value of the assets.
Please bear in mind that usually the majority of the time and skill involved in administering an Estate will be exercised up to the point of obtaining the 'Grant of Representation', also referred to in some cases as the 'Grant of Probate'.
The fees that we quote are on the basis of administering an Estate from the first discussion with the Executors or Administrators of an Estate beyond the first free no obligation twenty minutes, usually to the point of distributing the Estate.
Any work required in calculating the income tax and capital gains tax position both for the period up to the date of death and for the period of the estate administration will be quoted for separately and depending upon the type and number of assets involved it may be possible to provide a fixed fee for handling those aspects.
